Cyberpunk 2 could let players explore Night City and take on missions with friends for the first time, as a job listing suggests there will be multiplayer quests.
Cyberpunk 2077 was an entirely single-player RPG that followed mercenary V through Night City, with players tackling missions, making story-altering decisions, and exploring its open world on their own.
CD Projekt Red has already hinted that things could be different in the sequel, with a previous job listing suggesting online multiplayer was in development. While it suggested players might finally be able to experience Cyberpunk with friends, it offered little indication of what they would actually be doing together.
Now, another recruitment advert has provided a possible answer.
Cyberpunk 2 multiplayer could include co-op quests
As spotted by Cheat Happens, CD Projekt Red is searching for a Lead Quest Programmer to work on Cyberpunk 2. The official job listing includes one particularly interesting qualification:
“Understanding of multiplayer network architecture and client-server synchronization for game state/quests.”
The mention of quests suggests that multiplayer might extend beyond simply exploring the open world with friends. It raises the possibility of players tackling missions together, with their actions and progress shared across the same game session.
That could be a significant departure from Cyberpunk 2077, where missions, dialogue choices, and story progression were designed around a single protagonist.
However, the wording doesn’t confirm exactly how multiplayer would be implemented. It’s unclear whether players could experience the entire campaign together or whether co-op would be limited to specific activities.
Nevertheless, when combined with the earlier listing, it’s another indication that CD Projekt Red is exploring multiplayer systems for the sequel.
