Diablo V will have multiplayer, but it sounds like the devs haven’t tied down

If you and your friends are already discussing how you’ll be playing Diablo V together, first, we truly hope that your friend group sticks around into 2029 (and beyond), and second, we can confirm that multiplayer will be a thing in the game, it just sounds like the team hasn’t really pinned down what multiplayer will actually be.

“Like Diablo IV, it [D5] is a game that you can play solo or multiplayer, however you please,” game director Joe Shely is quoted as saying. “You should be able to play all of the content with your friends.” Unfortunately, that’s about all of the information that the devs are able to provide, saying otherwise that fans are going to have to wait closer to 2029 as more details are shared about the OARPG.

As previewed during its BlizzCon panel, Diablo V is going to be set in an apocalyptic Sanctuary where caravans are the only safe harbor and the maps themselves are going to be procedurally generated, so it’s hard to say how that overall design and the game’s multiplayer feature set will gel. Basically, we’ve all got a while before we learn more, but at least we are assured that the feature is coming.
