Sports Interactive has shared details on Shuffle Draft, a new multiplayer mode coming to Football Manager 27 that gives players another way to compete against friends and other managers online. Developed in partnership with FIFAe, the mode takes a different approach to Fantasy Draft, letting players build their own squads, mess around with different tactics and see how their teams hold up against the competition.
Shuffle Draft supports 2 to 32 players with the option to play privately with friends or jump into public competitions. There are several tournament formats to choose from, including knockout cups, group stages followed by knockout rounds and traditional leagues. AI managers can also be added to fill empty spots or give players a little practice before taking on real opponents.
Instead of sitting around waiting for everyone to make their picks, managers choose from sets of 20 players that rotate between participants after each round. Everyone picks at the same time, so things should move along pretty quickly. Player pools include the world’s best, wonderkids, veterans and lower league favorites with plenty of options to customize things based on nationality, reputation, division and individual strengths. Managers can also adjust player quality, check out what other teams are putting together and bookmark players they might want to grab later.
Once the draft is finished, it’s time to put a game plan together. Squad sizes range from 14 to 20 players, with smaller rosters requiring a little more thought during the draft and larger ones giving managers more room to experiment. Players also fully recover between matches, so there’s no need to worry about tired legs. It’s also a nice way to try out potential signings before spending money on them in a regular Career save.
The Re-Draft system adds another twist, letting managers make changes to their squads as the tournament goes along. After matchdays, players can be sent back into the draft pool or removed from the competition entirely, giving everyone another shot at improving their team. Up to five Re-Drafts can be enabled or the feature can be turned off for those who would rather stick with their original picks. It should come in handy when a few players aren’t working out or a team just needs a different approach.
With all the draft options, tournament formats and chances to change things up, no two competitions should feel quite the same. Sports Interactive plans to share more details soon on what’s coming to FM27 Console, Touch and Mobile. Don’t forget the Football Manager 27 free launch preview starts Thursday, October 29.
