One of Formula Legends’ most glaring omissions is its lack of online multiplayer to complement its era-spanning, single-player career mode. This is common in indie games developed by small teams. From next week, however, fans can finally race each other online in the Formula 1-inspired indie racer.
After a series of closed beta tests, 3DClouds has announced that Formula Legends’ public online multiplayer will roll out on 18th September, one year after its initial release.
No further details have been announced, however. It’s unknown whether the online multiplayer will feature ranked matches and private lobbies or how many players it will support.
Alongside the long-awaited online multiplayer, 3DClouds also announced that Formula Legends has achieved an impressive sales milestone, with 100,000 copies sold since it launched last September.
“This incredible number is only possible because of this community,” the developer wrote on its Discord channel. “Every bug report, every clip you shared, every race you posted, every piece of feedback during testing you built this with us. Thank you, truly.”
The addition of online multiplayer comes after a spate of updates over the last year, from wheel support and overhauled handling to official Formula E cars and circuits.
This will hopefully give the game a new lease of life, as its pick-up-and-play style should translate well to casual multiplayer racing sessions and make the game more feature-complete.
