It looks like PlayStation has canceled yet another The Last of Us project. Oh, what’s that? You didn’t know they were working on another one? Well, they weren’t, because this cancellation has nothing to do with anything official they’re doing; it’s about a dedicated fan who took it upon themselves to build a multiplayer mod for The Last of Us 2 after Sony canceled The Last of Us Factions three years ago.
Yep, a fan was making a multiplayer PvP mod for The Last of Us 2, and it’s shown a lot of progress over the last few months. Sadly, the project was completely shut down after its creator confirmed that Sony requested the mod not be released.

As confirmed on X, Modder Speclizer confirmed that his multiplayer mod for The Last of Us 2 has officially been canceled. The reasoning? PlayStation doesn’t want the mod released, even though PlayStation canceled The Last of Us multiplayer.
Hey everyone, as you all know, the TLOU 2 Multiplayer mod that has been in development since January was supposed to release this month. Unfortunately I recently received a letter on behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment requesting for the mod not to be released. Extremely sad that this never got to see the light of day but I hope you’ll continue to follow me onto the next project, this time something of my own. Thank you all for the incredible amount of support over the last year. I hope to bring you something bigger and better soon!”
PlayStation, what are we doing!
I suppose I’m not surprised, as this seems to be the case for many major mods. But even so, the user created this entirely for free, with the intention of anyone on PC being able to use it; this just rubs me in the wrong way.
For those who haven’t seen it yet, here’s the multiplayer mod in action.
Seriously, PlayStation, why? It was bad enough to see the cancellation of an official multiplayer, but now you won’t even have fans make one? Yeesh, this has not been a great year for PlayStation.
