We’re back once again with Sea of Thieves and production director Drew Stevens speaking in a sensible voice to players about some of what’s coming next for the multiplayer sandbox. It’s your customary “TL;DW” synopsis for those who don’t have time to watch nine minutes’ worth of video, particularly since it has some news about monetization.
We’ll begin with that part of the digest, which announces that the game’s cash shop cosmetics offerings will change starting in October. Players can expect to see smaller bundles of high-quality items, “more brand collaborations,” and cosmetics inspired by Rare Inc’s back catalog of games in the cash shop, while cosmetics bought with in-game currency promise to feature “a much stronger offering,” including sets tied to in-game characters and unique items for pirate legend characters. These adjustments are slated for September’s Season 21.
Other points of note discussed in the digest include confirmation that the original Golden Sands outpost will be rebuilt and brought to Custom Seas, and talk about the planned experiment arriving in Season 21 that removes a ship’s emissary status when it engages in portal hopping, which Stevens reasons has been utilized by PvP players significantly.
