Super Smash Bros becomes a battle royale in new multiplayer browser game with 45

A fan-made browser game has transformed Super Smash Bros into a battle royale where 45 Nintendo fighters use guns to survive on an island.

Super Smash Bros has been reimagined in just about every way possible, but a new browser project has taken Nintendo’s platform fighter into completely uncharted territory.

Created by developer Rishi, Super Smash Royale drops characters from Melee and Brawl onto a sprawling island where they must collect weapons, outrun a closing storm, and eliminate their opponents.

The game supports solo matches, private multiplayer lobbies, and controllers. Its 45-fighter roster includes Mario, Link, Pikachu, Sonic, Kirby, Snake, Mewtwo, and more, while matches can feature up to 32 combatants.

Instead of relying on their usual Smash attacks, the characters can pick up assault rifles, shotguns, sniper rifles, and other weapons scattered across the map. Players can also find healing items and shields to stay alive.

Gamers say Smash Royale creator is asking to be sued

Rishi unveiled the project on X, calling it his “best creation yet.”

According to the developer, Smash Royale was built in only a few days using GPT-6 Astra, ElevenLabs, Meshy AI, Blender, and Three.js. The site describes it as a non-commercial fan project and states that the original intellectual property belongs to its respective owners.

That disclaimer did little to stop some viewers from questioning how Nintendo might react. One user joked that Rishi was “just asking to be sued,” referencing the company’s history of taking action against unofficial projects.

Others were more impressed, calling the game “awesome,” although some felt each fighter should be able to use their signature abilities instead of relying entirely on firearms.

One player even suggested reversing the genre’s traditional formula: “You could do reverse battle royale: users spawn closer to the middle and want to avoid being knocked towards the perimeter / off the map.”

Smash Royale follows another recent browser project, Smash.fun, which features more than 1,000 custom fighters, including Lionel Messi, Taylor Swift, and Joe Rogan.

Meanwhile, a completely new Smash Bros game is reportedly in development. Nintendo has yet to reveal what form it could take, so who knows, perhaps Smash Royale has already predicted the series’ next big twist.
