The Lord of the Rings: War in the North Legacy Edition gets first patch

Aspyr has released the first big patch for The Lord of the Rings: War in the North Legacy Edition, which was released last month. The update includes making the game Steam Deck Verified, fixed some multiplayer issues, loading has been optimised, sorting a crash issue in regards to split screen on Xbox, and an issue where players on Switch and Switch 2 could not invite each other. Stability & Crash Fixes:

• Fixed a multiplayer progression blocker where a certain gate on Fornost would fail to release progression critical enemies when the party respawns.
• Fixed issues with cinematics aborting and asset loading when characters are swapped at checkpoints in multiplayer.

Inventory & Performance Optimizations:

• Optimized loading so that characters stats no longer unnecessarily refresh upon loading a save.
• Added safety checks during loading to prevent equipment with temporarily mismatched stats from being accidentally unequipped or deleted.
• Corrected item spawning logic to prevent items from accumulating in large piles at specific locations on each level.
• Fixed several instances where the visual state of characters’ gear would be desynced for a Host and Client in Multiplayer games.

Platform-Specific Enhancements:

• Now Steam Deck Verified
• Resolved a splitscreen crash affecting Xbox platforms.
• Fixed an issue preventing Switch and Switch 2 from inviting each other to Multiplayer sessions.
• PC / Storefront Extras (Steam, GOG, EGS): Fixed a borderless window mode bug where pending resolution changes would fail to revert to the previous resolution when it expired.
• Fixed a GOG issue where the cursor would disappear after closing the login panel in the Epic Social Overlay.

Jim dived into The Lord of the Rings: War in the North Legacy Edition when it launched, and said, “Overall, I’m surprised by just how much I’ve enjoyed my time with Legacy Edition – no doubt fuelled by an unearthed nostalgia for old-school hack n’ slash dungeon crawlers. There’s also a nostalgia there for the films and while War in the North isn’t canon, it folds in plenty of lore plucked from elsewhere in Tolkien’s Middle-earth. I had absolutely no plans to ever replay this game yet, thanks to Aspyr’s smart retooling and refining, I now can’t see myself putting it down before I see the credits roll.”
