Launching on November 19th, GTA 6 will undoubtedly be the most viral game for many years to come, with gamers worldwide buzzing with anticipation for the game's release, but Twitch CEO Dan Clancy says he expects the biggest surge in virality will come when multiplayer launches further down the road.
While no release date has been officially revealed by Rockstar Games, Clancy appears to be confident that GTA 6 Online will launch sometime in 2027.
GTA 6 Online Expected to Launch Next Year
There's been a nearly never-ending breadcrumb trail of leaks and rumors revolving around GTA 6. Everything from small narrative details to maps, gameplay footage, and estimations on how much money this gaming goliath will rake in, but one of the biggest questions remaining is: when exactly will the multiplayer portion of the game release?
Historically, Grand Theft Auto's solo experiences have always been a treat for gamers around the world. With extensive campaign missions, large maps to explore, and seemingly endless side missions and mischief to have fun with, there's a reason GTA quickly became one of the most talked-about games on the market, even before online multiplayer was even a thing.
Nowadays, a huge part of the appeal of many video games is the online multiplayer experience, but it doesn't stop there. Content creation has become a booming business, and gamers now have the ability to generate revenue from simply sharing their gameplay with the world.
Whether you're a streamer or you're uploading YouTube videos, TikTok clips, or writing guides and reviews, gaming content is becoming more and more popular as the years pass, and the interactions between players via online multiplayer always seem to be at the forefront of the most unexpected, post-worthy gaming content.
While plenty of amazing content will be shared from the solo gameplay of GTA 6, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy says an even bigger surge in viewership will come when multiplayer launches.
No official release date for GTA 6 multiplayer has been announced, but coming from someone who has direct communication with Rockstar, Clancy provides us with a great indicator of when GTA 6 Online could potentially launch. "We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans, and also helping them think about how they can engage our creators," Clancy continued. "You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer."
The interactions between players via online multiplayer always seem to be at the forefront of the most unexpected, post-worthy gaming content.
It's not just about the content creators in this scenario, as GTA enthusiasts simply want to experience the game alongside their friends—hopping into a tricked-out car, speeding through the city, and completing heists while attempting to outmaneuver the authorities. While not confirmed, this is pretty exciting news regarding GTA 6 multiplayer.
Potential GTA 6 PC Release Date
The other pressing question is: when will PC players get to join in on the action? GTA 6 will be launching for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19th, and a PC release date has yet to be revealed by Rockstar.
If we were to take a guess as to when the PC version will launch, our best clue could be taken from GTA 5. Released on September 17th, 2023, it took 18 months for the PC version of GTA 5 to be released, so if Rockstar plans to follow this formula, we may be waiting until 2028.
New comments from Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, suggest GTA 6's PC launch could potentially come a little earlier: "I would note that the PC platform is becoming more and more important to our company over time."
